2007 Algonquin Adventure
September 27, 2007Plans are being made for our trip to Algonquin Provincial Park Friday, July 25, 2008 to Sunday, August 3, 2008. This trip is open to Scouts 14 years of age at the time of departure for Canada who have earned the rank of First Class. Venture Crew participants are also welcome. Adult Advisors must complete Boy Scout Training. Scouts and Advisors should plan to participate in November’s wilderness first aid training outing.
We are planning some warm-up outings and will be looking for our committees to start working as teams. We’ll have a 2008 crew activity every month from now until the Canadian trip. The next one will be a canoe trip October 20-21, probably on the Allegheny River. We’ll add our other activity dates to the troop calendar shortly.

Assist with Pack 13 Wednesday, October 3
September 26, 2007Pack 13 will be having a Segway event in the parking lot at Parkwood on Wednesday, October 3. Up to 4 Boy Scouts are needed to run stations during the waiting time for the Cub Scouts. Some of the stations that the Pack would like to have are bike safety/maintenance and knot tying. The event will run from 3pm – 5pm.
Please note that this is a school day, so if you are available to help, you will need to make arrangements to get to Parkwood as soon as possible. Each boy scout that helps during this event will receive a free ride on a Segway, compliments of Pack 13.

The new Senior Patrol Leader will be elected on September 11th. All other Troop Leadership positions for the fall through January, 2008 will be determined after the election, in mid-September.

Tuesday, August 28 – Picnic and Court of Honor
August 26, 2007The fall activities for Troop 17 will begin Tuesday, August 28th with a picnic and Court of Honor at Parkwood Church from 6:00 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. The Troop will provide hamburgers, buns, condiments, utensils, and drinks. For the rest of the food, each family is encouraged to bring a side dish based on the first letter of their Scout’s last name:
A-H Please bring a pasta or potato salad to accompany dinner
I-P Please bring a fruit, Jello, vegetable, or tossed salad to accompany dinner
R-Z Please bring a dessert
If you are bringing a grill, please plan to arrive at 4:45 to setup, and begin cooking at 5:00.
If possible, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders and Patrol Leaders should arrive at 5:00 to help set up tables and prepare for the picnic.
Following the picnic, we will talk about the summer’s events, such as Summer Camp, Sea Base, and Pymatuning. We will also recognize merit badges and rank advancements earned since the beginning of summer.
The election for Senior Patrol Leader will be held at the September 11th Tuesday night meeting. It would help if those Scouts that are interested in running for the position would notify Mr. Riethmuller before the election takes place. At the picnic, leadership surveys will be handed out, so that Scouts can list their preferences for the remaining leadership positions. These positions and the new patrols will be determined in September.
Our regular Tuesday night meetingswill continue on September 4th at 7:30 at Parkwood Church.
